I’ve been known to name the gadgets I own. My iPod Touch is named Mr. Whimberry, my camera is Meursault. Even my laptop has a name, Mackenzie, for no other reason than because it’s a mac.
I’ve never named my cellphones though. Never saw the need to. But smartphones are a different breed of cellphone. They’re more like computers, able to connect to the Internet and run applications. Also, I thought of the perfect names and the geek inside me needs to be acquiesced.
Do you know the story of Pyramus and Thisbe? They are the original Romeo and Juliet and, according to Roman mythology, the reason why mulberries are red. My Blackberry is white, which amuses me to no end. It also always reminds me of the sad lovers’ story, so I might as well run with the allusion. My Blackberry will be Thisbe and the Cherry will be Pyramus. I’ll only be using Pyramus when I need to commute somewhere. The reason why I had to get a new phone was because it got snatched on a bus. I don’t want that happening again.
